Blake Bell, Derrick Gore among Chiefs injuries vs. Bears
By Matt Conner
Azur Kamara
The Chiefs’ third-string defense (and beyond) did not look good on Saturday but there were some individual highlights, including Azur Kamara’s ability to reach up and deflect a pass from Nathan Peterman.
The Chiefs signed Kamara as a free agent defensive end back in late July when training camp was just getting underway at St. Joseph. Given his late arrival with the team, it would seem he’s behind others with more experience and familiarity but the need at defensive end can’t let anyone feel like the situation is beyond them.
The truth is that Malik Herring and Joshua Kaindoh are among the players being counted on to develop into productive pass rushers, but they could also easily be passed over for someone else who is ready to contribute immediately. The Chiefs have been adding bodies along the defensive front for the last couple of weeks, including Carlos Dunlap, Matt Dickerson, and Danny Shelton. Kamara’s out on the edge, but the point remains. There’s room here for someone to step but Kamara’s injury really hurts the small chance he had.
