Justin Watson

Every offseason there is an offensive weapon added to the Chiefs arsenal who gets overhyped and never shows up. Last year it was sixth-round wide receiver Cornell Powell. Leading up to today’s game, this year’s overblown talents were running back Isiah Pacheco and wide receiver Justin Watson. Both saw plenty of time on Saturday against the Bears in a variety of roles, but Justin Watson legitimized his hype.

Watson was the leading pass catcher on the day with 5 receptions for 48 yards and a big 22-yard touchdown.

Watson spent the first four years of his career with the Buccaneers, and has recorded a total of 23 receptions and only two starts. The Chiefs signed him to a one-year deal in February, and he has absolutely relished the opportunity.

He had multiple catches for first downs and appeared to be a safety option for each of the three quarterbacks he caught passes from. If he can build on today’s success throughout the rest of the preseason, he will have an excellent chance at making an impact on this offense in the upcoming season.
