Linebacker

This may seem like an odd choice since the Chiefs seemingly have three young, solid contributors for the foreseeable future in Nick Bolton, Willie Gay, and Leo Chenal. They have a similar issue to the cornerbacks in which their primary concern is just youth and lack of experience. This linebacker room has everything from speed to toughness but they’re all still kids pretty much. To put it into perspective, the three previously mentioned players, plus Jermaine Carter, have a combined seven seasons of NFL experience coming into this season. The recently departed Anthony Hitchens has eight seasons of NFL experience by himself.

Another reason why I decided to include linebackers in this list is that I do not want any of the three young guys to lose snaps this season. All three of Bolton, Gay, and Chenal are still developing and a significant injury that could hinder their long-term development.

In addition, I view Jermaine Carter as more of a special teams player and Leo Chenal is likely in need of a redshirt season in 2022. It’s obvious that no team wants a player to suffer an injury but I think a fully healthy season for their young linebackers will pay dividends in future years for the Chiefs.
