There are a handful of players who are generating zero buzz—good or bad—in training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs.

While the 90-man roster might seem overwhelming given the sheer size of it all and the number of competitors at various positions, the truth is that the number of eyes and ears at NFL training camps these days means that we often hear something about nearly every single player on a team’s roster here and there until decisions are made about roster cuts.

From time to time, however, a player slips through the cracks. He is healthy. He is active. He’s going through the reps. But he’s also not getting noticed. In a way, that can be good because mistakes aren’t being made, but it also means he’s not standing out from his peers at the very time when separation is required. In a way, the one thing a player doesn’t want to be in training camp is “missing.”

Unfortunately for these members of the Kansas City Chiefs roster, that’s the best description of them to date. Each of the following players has generated little, if any, buzz to date, but there’s hope since there are still three preseason games left to play.

Tayon Fleet-Davis

Tayon Fleet-Davis was a productive back for the University of Maryland in 2021 in his fifth and final season for the Terps with 5.6 yards/carry on the season. He finished with 128 carries for 721 yards and 8 touchdowns and exhibited solid hands as well as he brought in 32 catches for another 305 yards.

Coming into training camp, Fleet-Davis knew he was a long shot to make the active roster for the Chiefs given the depth at the position and the demands of Andy Reid. Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Ronald Jones, and Jerick McKinnon were all experienced players who felt like locks to take up the guaranteed roster spots. From there, Derrick Gore’s experience likely put him ahead of anyone new to the mix.

Still, that didn’t stop the Chiefs from drafting Rutgers back Isiah Pacheco in the seventh round or signing Fleet-Davis to a rookie free agent deal alongside Jerrion Ealy.

If that sounds like a lot of faces, it is. It’s the nature of an NFL offseason roster, but the problem here for Fleet-Davis is that he’s gotten lost in the mix. For example, Pacheco is earning praise from Andy Reid in his press conferences with reporters and had Albert Breer excited on a national level. As for Fleet-Davis, there’s been little buzz. A breakout preseason performance can change that, but training camp hasn’t done anything for Fleet-Davis’ stock to date.
