Will Roderick Johnson keep getting LT reps?

Back to the left tackle situation, because the absence of Orlando Brown has us intrigued with the player who keeps getting reps at left tackle alongside Joe Thuney: Roderick Johnson.

Most fans would have likely expected free agent signee Geron Christian or versatile super-sub Andrew Wylie or even rookie tackle Darian Kinnard to be the next man up before Johnson came into camp. However, the Florida State product has clearly impressed the Chiefs’ coaching staff who seem intent on pressing Johnson more and more to see how he might hold up.

Johnson was originally a fifth-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns but failed to earn much of anything in a short stint there. However, Johnson did become an important piece for the Houston Texans from 2018-2020 where he played in 29 games and made 6 starts. He spent last season trying to get playing time with the Miami Dolphins.

It’s still too early to read into the way the offensive line is coming together, but another week of Johnson at left tackle could get really interesting moving forward and alter a lot of roster predictions.
