Training camp is here! We continue our series, “Meet the Chiefs” with a position with some serious turnover: The linebackers.

Chiefs fans will finally be getting their wish this season: Willie Gay and Nick Bolton will be starters on this new-look defense. Who will be the third guy in a base 4-3? That is a little bit less predictable. With training camp underway, we take a look at one of the most interesting positions on the team, the linebacker position.

#50 Willie Gay

College: Mississippi State
Years Pro: 3 (24 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: Lock

A lot was made of Willie Gay’s ability to comprehend the Steve Spagnuolo defense early in his career. Now, entering year three, Gay seems poised to make the most of his opportunity. With tremendous athleticism, he seems like he may be one of the most exciting players to watch on defense. Last season, he started 11 games but was not a full-time player. With Anthony Hitchens and Ben Niemann out of the picture, he may just receive the most snaps of any linebacker on the roster.

#32 Nick Bolton

College: Missouri
Years Pro: 2 (22 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: Lock

Nick Bolton was not a starter last season, but statistically was the most productive linebacker on the roster. With 112 total tackles, Bolton finished 28th in the NFL in that category last season. Entering his sophomore season, Bolton has the opportunity to take over the “green dot” position that was held last season by Anthony Hitchens. With a larger responsibility and more opportunity, Bolton could be one of the best in the league at the MIKE linebacker position. Bolton will get a real opportunity to shine in this defense.
