KC Chiefs: Offensive line overview for training camp
By Grant Tuttle
#65 G Trey Smith
College: Tennessee
Years Pro: 2 (23 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: Lock
A fan favorite, Trey Smith enters his second year as a pro. Smith’s high motor and merciless playstyle accomplish the unthinkable: it makes an offensive lineman fun to watch. Smith is a mauler in the rushing attack and an effective pass blocker from the interior. He is the unquestioned week one starter at the guard position across from Joe Thuney.
#52 C Creed Humphrey
College: Oklahoma
Years Pro: 2 (23 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: Lock
Creed Humphrey shined in his role as the starting center for the Chiefs last season. In just one season, he was able to solidify a spot as one of the league’s best at the center position. As a decorated collegiate athlete, his skillset transferred very well. In fact, he was so good that he earned a spot on the all-rookie team. Look for the former Oklahoma Sooner to continue and expand his success in year two.
#77 OT/G Andrew Wylie
College: Eastern Michigan
Years Pro: 5 (27 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: High
Andrew Wylie has become a chess piece for Andy Reid in the offense. With a capability to fill in at guard and center, he has been worth his weight in gold to the offense. Wylie is living and breathing proof that players can have success even if they can’t find a role with their initial team. Wylie came to Kansas City after stints with three other teams: The Colts, Browns, and Chargers. Wylie projects to be the main swing tackle for the Chiefs this season.
#61 G/C Austin Reiter
College: South Florida
Years Pro: 7 (30 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: Low
Austin Reiter is an intriguing option along the offensive line. As a true journeyman, Reiter has played center for six teams in his career. He has been cut from the team before but will have an opportunity to be a depth piece along the interior of the line. At 30 years old, he is one of the oldest linemen on the roster, but that does not mean that he has the upper hand over any of the younger guys. Remember, Reiter was cut by the Chiefs once before.
