If you are headed out to Saint Joseph for training camp, we’ve got you covered with the “who’s who?” of the preseason. This time, with tight ends!

Fans that are heading out to Saint Joseph to watch Kansas City Chiefs training camp have several positions in mind when it comes to “training camp battles.” One of the mini-battles that no one is thinking about is who will take most of the snaps behind Travis Kelce at tight end?

The battle could get interesting with intriguing options returning from last season and several new faces! Here are your Chiefs tight ends competing for 2022.

#87 Travis Kelce

College: Cincinnati
Years Pro: 10 (32 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: Lock

Patrick Mahomes will have familiarity with Travis Kelce and that connection may be even stronger in lieu of the Tyreek Hill departure. Kelce is entering his tenth season with the Chiefs and has not shown any signs of slowing down. In fact, he is the only tight end in NFL history to record four straight seasons of 1000 receiving yards. There is no doubt that Kelce, when healthy, is the best tight end in the NFL and among the greatest to ever play the position.

Kelce should not worry about leaving Kansas City this season. As aforementioned, he may be in for a career year. The only player on the roster that has a tighter hold on their roster spot is Patrick Mahomes.

#81 Blake Bell

College: Oklahoma
Years Pro: 8 (30 years old)
Chance of Making the Roster: Medium

The Belldozer! Blake Bell returned last season after a one-year departure with the Chiefs to join the Cowboys. Last season Bell appeared in 16 games. With an imposing 6’6, 260-pound frame, Bell is a very talented blocker in the rushing attack. With all of that in mind, Bell only received 13 targets in the passing attack. Of those targets, he caught nine passes for 87 yards. Bell could be categorized as a “journeyman” as he has spent time with five teams—49ers, Vikings, Jaguars, Cowboys, and Chiefs. Despite carving out roles for each team, Bell has not caught a touchdown pass in his career.

Bell plays a role in Andy Reid’s offensive scheme. While he is not going to do anything flashy, he will consistently win in blocking situations. Bell is also versatile and is capable of playing an H-back role. Bell is also a contributor on special teams. Despite being less of a physical threat and playmaker than other younger players on the roster, Bell will be given the benefit of the doubt and will likely start camp as the number two tight end.
