Kansas City Chiefs need alternate helmets
By Greg Morse
Almost half of the NFL is rolling out new alternate or throwback uniforms this year, but the Chiefs aren’t one of them. They really should be.
NFL teams love to change their uniforms. Every season it seems like at least one team switches up their jerseys and helmets and brings in a fresh look. Everyone except the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs have largely kept the same uniform and helmet design since the team came to Kansas City. And for good reason: it’s a great uniform.
But this year, a new trend among NFL teams has been creating an alternate helmet to use during some of their games. Over 10 teams (and counting) will be sporting new uniforms that will either be throwbacks to their classic unis or special-edition alternate helmets. This all stems from the NFL lifting a previous rule that banned alternate helmets.
I’m not going to lie, some of them look pretty sweet.

Of all these new alternate helmets, one that is missing is the Chiefs, and that’s really disappointing.
Over the years, there have been some really cool alternate helmet designs created by fans of the team and I’d love to see any of them get a chance to hit the field this year for KC. In fact, just scrolling through the NFL apparel shop there already are some NFL-endorsed versions that look pretty amazing.
To be honest, I don’t really care what the helmets look like, I just think it would be cool for the team to have one. The only true “throwback” helmet the Chiefs have ever had was their original red helmet with the state of Texas on it, an homage to when they were the Dallas Texans. Those are okay, but not nearly as cool looking as the options above.
It seems more and more teams are being announced every day, so maybe I’m just getting impatient and the Chiefs have a special helmet lined up that’s going to blow us away. It should be noted that none of the other AFC West teams have announced alternate helmets yet either (as of this writing), so maybe my FOMO is a little premature.
