The Kansas City Chiefs overtime win over the Buffalo Bills last postseason has been nominated for an ESPY Award for the Best Game of the last year.

Given that it’s a game we’re still talking about and referring to six months later, it’s not a surprise to see the Kansas City Chiefs’ postseason victory over the Buffalo Bills talked about as one of the single best games in any sport in the last year.

The list of this year’s 2022 ESPY Award nominees are out and the Chiefs’ overtime win over the Bills in the Divisional Round is one of four contests up for “Best Game” of the year.

At the time, it felt as if the actual game couldn’t possibly live up the hype coming into the 2022 AFC Divisional Round. It was Josh Allen versus Patrick Mahomes and Stefon Diggs versus Tyreek Hill. The Bills had crept closer to respectability with a solid regular-season win over the Chiefs last October, but the Chiefs had their number in the postseason.

However, the game itself was one for the ages with several lead changes and a three-point lead for the Bills with only 13 seconds left after Allen found Gabriel Davis for a 19-yard touchdown. From there, “13 seconds” worked its way as a phrase into Chiefs all-time lore as Mahomes moved the chains with ease before setting up Harrison Butker for a game-tying field goal. From there, the Chiefs won the coin toss and a Travis Kelce touchdown won the game in overtime.

Other games up for the Best Game ESPY include Alabama’s four-OT win over Auburn, the Kansas Jayhawks championship comeback (from 16 points down), and UConn over N.C. State in the women’s Elite Eight.n
