Five Kansas City Chiefs who need early training camp buzz
By Matt Conner
Vitaliy Gurman, offensive lineman
Vitaliy Gurman is the newest name on this list, and if you’re scratching your head wondering exactly when he snuck onto the Chiefs roster, no one would blame you.
The Chiefs signed Gurman in May after he tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted free agent but failed to make it. It was part of Veach’s post-draft roster tinkering in order to prep the roster for competition in the spring and summer. The Chiefs clearly liked Gurman as a potential o-line flyer after watching him play left tackle at the University of Toledo over the last few seasons. Gurman was a third-team All-MAC performer last year.
The Chiefs are likely going to give one tackle the chance to stick around and learn on the practice squad, but Roderick Johnson has been earning more reps in OTAs and Prince Tega Wanogho is also still around as a more familiar face. Gurman will need to show the coaches what he can do now that he’s earned this rare opportunity.
