Tayon Fleet-Davis, running back

The competition out of the backfield is fierce this offseason for the Chiefs and it seems like Tayon Fleet-Davis is already getting lost in the shuffle.

Since signing Fleet-Davis to a rookie free agent deal out of the University of Maryland, the team also re-signed Jerick McKinnon to a one-year contract to return in ’22. That means McKinnon is back to compete for reps with Clyde Edwards-Helaire and Ronald Jones as the primary veteran core.

That wouldn’t be bad news for Fleet-Davis in itself, but when you marry the veterans with the prospect core that was already on the roster—including Derrick Gore, seventh-round choice Isiah Pacheco, and Jerrion Ealy—it’s a very crowded picture.

Last season, Fleet-Davis averaged 5.6 yards/carry and rushed for 8 touchdowns for the Terps. He also caught 32 passes in an effort to show how much he’s grown as a pass-catcher. Can he surprise the Chiefs by showing a skill set that’s not already present in someone else?
