Carl Nassib – Edge

When discussing free agent edge options, Carl Nassib isn’t a name that gets mentioned very often. While Nassib isn’t someone that puts up big sack totals, he is a solid NFL veteran that fits the Spagnuolo mold of player.

Nassib is listed at 6-foot-7 and 275 pounds. He could be a player that sets the edge and shows up strong against the run in the base defense. He also has the size and versatility to kick inside on passing downs. While he didn’t put up many sacks last season (1.5) he did score a solid 67.0 pass-rush grade from PFF which means he was applying pressure on a regular basis, even if he didn’t get many sacks. That pass rush grade was higher than any Chiefs edge player other than Melvin Ingram.

Nassib is a good enough player that he belongs on an NFL roster and would be a much-needed veteran player in their edge rotation. At 29 years old, he’s still in his prime. There is some belief that the fact that Nassib came out as an openly gay player may have something to do with his lack of free agent interest. All the Chiefs should care about is if Nassib would upgrade their thin depth at edge and he definitely would. He would also be much cheaper than some of the bigger names that make up the top three on this list.

The next two names on this list would add some depth to their interior defensive line.
