Let’s take a look at the updated list of Kansas City Chiefs draft selections for the 2023 NFL Draft with an updated compensatory ranking.

At this point, the only changes to the compensatory draft formula for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2023 will be the official reveal of the list of additional selections to see just how good predictions were against the actual hidden algorithms utilized by the National Football League.

The lone variable left for the Chiefs in terms of computing any and all potential compensatory picks in the 2023 NFL Draft was taken care of recently when the Miami Dolphins signed Melvin Ingram to a one-year contract for the ’22 season. That allowed the Chiefs to cash in on the UFA tender placed upon him following the 2022 draft, and it’s why it’s worth getting an updated look at comp picks moving forward.

But all of this is a bit in the weeds to begin with if you need a review. In case you need a primer, every year the NFL provides compensatory picks in future drafts to franchises that endure various losses. In free agency, if a team sees more players sign with other teams compared to those they bring in, that team can find itself awarded a compensatory draft selection or two, just as an example.

This offseason, the Chiefs lost front office exec Ryan Poles to the Chicago Bears after he was hired away to be their new general manager. The Chiefs were then given consecutive third-round comp picks in the ’22 and 23 NFL Draft. The same will happen if Eric Bieniemy ever gets a head coaching gig with a team after years of interviews.

The lone domino left to fall was Ingram. The Chiefs placed the UFA tender on him, which gave them a compensatory draft pick if another team signed him on the open market. If he’d not signed by training camp, then the Chiefs would have been the only team with whom he could sign to play the ’22 season. Given his contract, the Chiefs are expected to land an extra sixth round pick for the loss.

Nick Korte of Over The Cap has a fairly perfected formula for figuring out what picks each team will get and he has the Chiefs now down for two extra picks in 2023: one for Ingram to the Dolphins and another for the Jarran Reed signing to the Green Bay Packers. Yes, the Chiefs lost bigger free agents than that—including Charvarius Ward as one example—but they also signed solid players like safety Justin Reid.

Right now, here’s a look at the complete list of draft picks for the Chiefs in the 2023 NFL Draft:
