The Kansas City Chiefs have been ranked No. 3 overall in the offseason NFL power rankings by columnist Peter King.

If Peter King has his finger on the pulse of the National Football League this offseason, it’s going to be a helluva season for the AFC in ’22. In his latest column, he’s put together his offseason NFL power rankings after the first-year player draft and the bulk of free agency and he has the conference with the top three spots overall.

The Kansas City Chiefs come in at No. 3 overall in King’s power rankings, right behind the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Chargers as first and second, respectively. The reigning Super Bowl champions, the L.A. Rams, finally land on the charts at No. 4.

King’s perspective pretty much sums up that of anyone who is honest about the Chiefs’ fortunes this coming season. He writes, “At a loss where to put Kansas City,” and then goes from there to describe what might or might not happen for the Chiefs, ultimately stating this offseason was as much about 2024 as it was about 2022.

Mahomes’ presence is always going to keep the Chiefs competitive offensively and this coaching continuity, led by Andy Reid, is going to have this team competitive and prepared each week. The Chiefs are also deeper, faster, and younger than they’ve been in some time.

That said, a lot of veteran losses have taken an unknown toll until the new roster hits the field, and questions remain about the state of things at pass rusher and perhaps cornerback as well—depending on your level of optimism.

For some perspective, the Las Vegas Raiders and Denver Broncos are ranked No. 13 and 14, which means King is another reporter who realizes just how tough the AFC West is going to be this season.
