The top 15 greatest draft picks in Kansas City Chiefs history
By Matt Conner

4. Johnny Robinson
Draft Details: 1st round, 1960
Key Stat: 57 interceptions
Johnny Robinson is such a great story as the first great defensive back in team history, a position he found only after initially joining the team in their first-ever season as a halfback from Louisiana State.
Robinson entered the AFL with a focus on the offensive side of the ball, and he even proved himself productive in his first couple of seasons with 1,870 yards from scrimmage and 15 touchdowns in his first two years. However, coach Hank Stram thought he would be a better fit in the secondary, and it’s there that Robinson set franchise records.
Robinson is still the Chiefs’ franchise leader in interceptions with 57 and he twice led the entire league in INTs in both ’66 and ’70. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2019 after earning 7 Pro Bowl (or AFL All-Star) nods in a prolific career on both sides of the ball.
