With rookie mini-camp in the books, the Kansas City Chiefs got their first official look at the 2022 NFL Draft class along with other undrafted rookies and it’s an exciting time for everyone.
We’re at the honeymoon stage with all of the draft picks and UDFA pickups. Everyone wants to love the new players. It’s the “every single pick is going to be an All-Pro” and the Chiefs got approximately five “steals of the draft” stage. Everything is great right now.
In all seriousness, there’s a ton of reason to believe this can be one of the better drafts in Chiefs history and specifically within the Brett Veach-Andy Reid era. The Chiefs came away with 10 new picks with five of them coming in the top 150 selections and a handful of highly-coveted UDFAs such as wide receiver Justyn Russ and running back Jerrion Ealy.
While none of these guys have actually hit the field yet, we do have a pretty good feeling most of the Chiefs 2022 picks will contribute and contribute rather early. We are fortunate as fans to have a front office that has drafted fairly well over the last decade and the team’s drafts seem to have certainly taken a turn for the better since Reid rolled into town in 2013. However, not everything has been rosy in the Chiefs’ war room in the Reid era, and there have been some questionable picks that the Chiefs had to pay or have been paying for years after the picks were made.
With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the biggest draft busts in the Andy Reid era.
