KC Chiefs: Three moves to make following the 2022 NFL Draft
By Matt Conner
Brett Veach has earned himself a vacation.
After months (years, really) of college player analysis and grades, from Power 5 programs to historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), the Kansas City Chiefs general manager was able to clear the slate of those efforts and wipe the big board in the front office clean—at least for this offseason’s work—following the 2022 NFL Draft. It was a fine effort that’s earned very high grades and it should cement the future for the Chiefs at several positions.
The Chiefs entered the NFL Draft with 12 picks and came away with 10 players. They leaned heavily on the secondary, added a pass-rushing cornerstone, gave Patrick Mahomes another weapon, elevated the linebacking corps, and bolstered the offensive line.
Given that the Chiefs had already signed several free agents in the preceding weeks, the roster is largely set for the Chiefs heading into mandatory minicamp and even training camp. Fans can get a good sense even now of what the roster will resemble and it’s possible to make an educated guess at what the active roster could include.
But before the dust completely settles, there are a few moves the Chiefs must make following the draft. Veach might deserve a vacation, but he’s gotta reserve some time and effort to make these moves happen.
