The Kansas City Chiefs were able to add linebacker Leo Chenal in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

With the final selection of three scheduled picks on day two of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs have taken linebacker Leo Chenal at No. 103 overall.

Chenal, a 6’2″, 255 lb. linebacker, was a tackling machine last year for Wisconsin with 115 total tackles, including 18 of them for a loss. He also added 8 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in 11 games. Chenal should take reps at the Sam linebacker role as a very tough linebacker with a stout frame whose strengths and weaknesses will come from being so thick.

This is the third consecutive year that the Chiefs have used a pick on day two to add youth, depth, and talent to the linebacking corps in an attempt to completely remake the position. Chenal will play alongside Willie Gay Jr. and Nick Bolton, both second-round picks in 2020 and 2021 respectively, joining them in the same season that Anthony Hitchens was allowed to leave in free agency.

So far, the Chiefs have given a significant boost to both sides of the ball, but especially on offense. In the first round, the team added pass rusher George Karlaftis from Purdue in the first round and grabbed both Washington cornerback Trent McDuffie and Cincinnati safety Bryan Cook for the secondary. Veach also grabbed Western Michigan wide receiver Skyy Moore for the offense.

The Chiefs have six scheduled picks on the third day of the draft, with one pick in the fourth, one in the fifth, and then four in the seventh round.
