James Bradberry

Of all of the rumors to persist, this one has remained the longest and actually feels like the most probable to happen—at least in one form or another.

The Chiefs have a choice here to either give up something for Bradberry in order to secure his services from the Giants or else wait for him to possibly be released. At that point, the Chiefs would have to hope that Bradberry chooses the franchise over others as a new free agent, but that also means that they won’t have to pay the exorbitant bill that would come with Bradberry in a trade.

The financial hurdle is likely what has kept any team from dealing for Bradberry already given that he’s still a talented cornerback who is still only 28 years old and was a Pro Bowler as recently as 2020.

As for the Chiefs, if K.C. is willing to take on some money, which the team is in a position to do so, the return would likely be negligible for the Giants, who are looking more for cap relief than anything at this point and might just release him outright after the draft anyway. If the Chiefs trade anything, they could even retain as many picks and just do a simple pick swap near the end of the draft.

The Chiefs have a need for more depth at cornerback and adding a solid boundary starter like Bradberry would be ideal given the talent already in-house with Rashad Fenton, Deandre Baker, and L’Jarius Sneed. Will Bradberry be the next addition? The fit is very good but the finances aren’t. Let’s see if the Chiefs can make those work, too.
