WR Daurice Fountain

A little-known veteran, wide receiver Daurice Fountain will push for a roster spot this preseason.

Fountain joined the Chiefs before last season, after spending the previous three years with the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts selected Fountain 159th overall in the 2018 draft, cycling him between the active roster and practice squad for three years. Kansas City brought Fountain, and he proceeded to lead the team’s receiving attack in the first preseason game. The 25-year-old receiver surprisingly made the Chief’s initial 53-man roster after a strong preseason. The moment’s weight was not lost on Fountain.

“It’s really special,” Fountain said. “The Chiefs have always been an elite team in the league so when they gave me the opportunity, I was just grateful. I just had to thank God because, obviously, you can see this receiving corps is stacked.”

From his media availabilities to his social media accounts, fans know that Fountain is very grateful for his opportunity in Kansas City. Fountain has value as a depth receiver and as a returner. He will have to compete with fellow receivers Josh Gordon, Cornell Powell, and Corey Coleman, but Fountain has a blend of versatility and youth the others do not.

His path to the 53-man roster will not be easy, but Fountain should make the roster. If injuries or personnel shifts befall the position, Fountain is established to succeed.
