2nd round – George Pickens, WR, Georgia

Now you’re starting to realize why we consider this a dream scenario for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Here at the top of the second round (in terms of the Chiefs’ selections) is a player for whom many fans are beating the drum in round one. Somehow he’s just ready and waiting at No. 50 overall for an already loaded team like the Chiefs to take him and run.

Pickens likely needs as much of an introduction for Chiefs Kingdom as Boye Mafe was given how often he’s linked with the team. Pickens even visited Arrowhead in the weeks before the draft so the team could get a closer look, and we like the fact that there’s some real smoke here.

As for the fit, Pickens has very few weaknesses as a dynamic wide receiver with elite potential even in the NFL. A late-career ACL injury and less-than-stellar production after an incredible freshman year knocked him down this far, but he’s only 21-years-old with all the tools you want and some proven production against college football’s biggest opponents. Picken should be a revelation as Mahomes’ preferred target for the next half-decade once he’s healthy and ready.
