Right now, the bulk of attention inside and outside of Arrowhead as it pertains to the Kansas City Chiefs has to do with the 2022 NFL Draft. That’s as it should be, not only because the three-day event takes place in less than two weeks, but also because general manager Brett Veach and his staff have an incredible 12 picks to utilize for the team’s benefit.

The Chiefs are one of the teams who can consider themselves loaded in this year’s first-year player draft. While a few teams have multiple first-round picks—as the Chiefs do at No. 29 and 30 overall—the Chiefs can say the same again in the second round, the third round, and the fourth round. Oh yeah, there are also four seventh-round picks thrown in for good measure.

What are the biggest non-draft questions facing the Kansas City Chiefs these days?

That’s good news because the Chiefs, at the present time, have less talent on paper than they did just a few months ago. Superstar wide receiver Tyreek Hill, one of the team’s three elite offensive pillars, was traded away to the Miami Dolphins. The defensive line lost a shoulder to lean on in Melvin Ingram, and the secondary waved goodbye to their most reliable performers at corner in Charvarius Ward and safety in Tyrann Mathieu.

The Chiefs have made a few moves in free agency to restock the cupboards, to be sure, and those are all notable. Deon Bush stands in for Dan Sorensen. Jermaine Carter comes in to help replace Anthony Hitchens. Taylor Stallworth bolsters the defensive front in Jarran Reed’s absence. Marquez Valdes-Scantling, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Ronald Jones have been added to an offense that will always be electric with Patrick Mahomes at the helm.

Still, there are other pressing matters, to varying degrees, that have nothing to do with the looming draft. The Chiefs will find out or provide answers in good time, but not for a bit. But when they are good and ready, fans will be waiting to hear about the following.
