The Chiefs have reportedly been making calls about “top receivers.” Among the names mentioned is DK Metcalf. Is this a good move? We discuss.

The Kansas City Chiefs are an organization that has been good at keeping things under wraps. However, in recent weeks, it has been leaked that the Chiefs have been calling other teams around the league to inquire about “one of their top” receivers. Among the names mentioned have been Laviska Shenault, Tyler Lockett, AJ Brown, and—most frequently—DK Metcalf.

The rumors are swirling in the wake of the Chiefs’ decision to trade Tyreek Hill. After weeks of hearing about a looming contract extension, the talks eventually stalled when the asking price increased from the Davante Adams trade and Christian Kirk signing. So, the Chiefs decided to trade Hill to the Miami Dolphins for a massive haul of draft capital. The Chiefs secured a 2022 first-round pick (No. 29 overall), 2022 second-round pick (No. 50 overall), 2022 fourth-round pick, 2023 fourth-round pick, and a 2023 sixth-round pick.

While no one is complaining about having mobility in the draft or the increase in opportunities to hit on picks, we are wondering how the Chiefs plan on replacing the production of Hill. Hill, a 5th-round pick out of West Alabama, has accounted for 479 receptions, 6,630 yards, and 66 total touchdowns since being drafted.

So, what about DK Metcalf? He is the one that seems to be on everyone’s mind in the trade market.

It’s clear to see why people would be buzzing about the possibility of Seattle shopping Metcalf. He is a wide receiver who is built like a linebacker and runs as fast as anyone not named Tyreek Hill. While his change of direction was a concern in his predraft process, Metcalf quickly rose to prominence in his rookie season in which he tallied 58 receptions on 100 targets for 900 yards and 7 touchdowns. Since then, in two seasons, he has accounted for 158 receptions, 2,270 yards, and 22 touchdowns.

So, would it be wise for the Chiefs to trade for DK Metcalf? They do need a Tyreek Hill replacement, after all. When you ask Chiefs Kingdom, it is a complicated question. Some love the idea and some truly despise it. So, let’s get into it: Three pros and three cons of trading for DK Metcalf.
