According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson of the Pro Football Network, veteran cornerback Steven Nelson will head to his fourth NFL team with a brand new two-year deal signed on Wednesday with the Houston Texans. Per Wilson, the terms of the deal could reach up to $10 million over the two-year span of the contract.

Nelson had played the last three seasons in the state of Pennsylvania, two years with the Pittsburgh Steelers and last year with the Philadelphia Eagles. Nelson had first signed with the Steelers on a lucrative three-year deal in free agency signed before the 2019 season, but the club terminated his contract upon his request before ’21 and he signed with the Eagles instead.

Nelson first entered the league with the Kansas City Chiefs as part of their 2015 NFL Draft class under former general manager John Dorsey. Nelson was the team’s third-round pick that year after starring at Oregon State.

Former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson is getting a new two-year deal in free agency from the Houston Texans.

Nelson is still only 29-years-old and gives the Texans a reliable contributor outside. Nelson at least 15 games per season for each of the last four years, and he finished last year with 50 tackles, 7 passes deflected, and 1 interception. His finest season, statistically speaking, came with the Chiefs back in 2018 when he had a career-high four interceptions and 15 passes deflected.

The Texans employ a number of former Chiefs in their secondary, so it might be a sort of reunion for Nelson given that both Tremon Smith and safety Eric Murray are key contributors on Houston’s defense. In addition, linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis and wideout Chris Conley are also on the roster.

Nelson will enter his eighth NFL season in ’22 and has 8 career picks in 98 regular-season games.
