The Miami Dolphins are showing interest in former Chiefs pass rusher Melvin Ingram before the draft.

The Miami Dolphins are reportedly hosting former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Melvin Ingram for a visit in free agency, and as one of the last remaining solid pickups on the edge, it’s a notable move for Miami to consider.

The Dolphins already strengthened their pass rush this offseason by re-signing Emmanuel Ogbah, also a former member of the Chiefs, but the addition of Ingram would help provide another solid pass rusher to a group that also has some very promising youth in Jaelen Phillips, last year’s first-round pick, on a defensive unit that hopes to make life easier for first-year head coach Mike McDaniel.

According to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport, Ingram is visiting the Dolphins on Tuesday, which could be the sign of a team kicking the tires on potential veteran additions to make following the draft if the team does not acquire players at specific positions. Most teams have a list of players they want to call following the draft if things do not work out at a certain part of the depth chart.

Ingram might not be keen to sign too soon himself knowing he waited until just before training camp began last year to go with the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offer over the Chiefs, who also had him in for a free-agent visit before the draft. The Chiefs ended up trading for him anyway halfway through the season for a future sixth-round pick.

Given their need at the position, Chiefs fans will be frustrated if Ingram signs elsewhere, but the Chiefs front office certainly has the inside track on what Ingram brings to the team and what they should expect from him in ’22. If they failed to extend an offer, there’s likely a good reason.
