Running back is undoubtedly the most volatile spot for fans when it comes to watching and waiting for what the Kansas City Chiefs might do in the upcoming NFL draft. For some, it’s still seen as a position of need despite the presence of first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire. For others, the notion of further major investment in the position feels ridiculous knowing the value teams can get from so little.

Earlier this week, ESPN analyst Todd McShay put out his latest mock draft and had the Chiefs taking a second-round flyer on the likes of Breece Hall. That sort of selection would cause some fans to pick up their pitchforks, but the good news for them is that the Chiefs seem to be checking out later-round options ahead of the actual event.

Before the 2022 NFL Draft, each team is allotted personal visits with 30 different prospects and the Chiefs are using one this week on former Coastal Carolina running back Shermari Jones. Jones is expected to be a late-round pick if not an undrafted prospect when all is said and done.

The Kansas City Chiefs are going to use one of their 30 allotted pre-draft visits on Coastal Carolina running back Shermari Jones.

Last season, Jones was named first-team All-Sun Belt after leading the Chanticleers and the entire conference in rushing yards with 1,040. He also had 13 rushing touchdowns. It was a breakout effort after producing less than 400 yards on the ground during his first year at CC as a junior (Jones took the JuCo route).

As a pass-catcher, he’s completely unproven with only three catches during his senior season for 28 yards. However, teams are curious about pro potential as a thick back with good speed, and the Denver Broncos also had him in for a pre-draft visit just last week.
