Re-sign Darrel Williams

There’s a chance that Darrel Williams enjoyed enough of a breakout campaign and still shows enough tread left on the tires that some team is going to price him out of a range where the Chiefs can afford to bring him back. If that’s the case, we wouldn’t blame the team at all for moving on to other candidates, but if there’s a chance to reel Williams back in for even one more season, it would be well worth the effort.

Williams proved last year just how reliable he can be in a pinch, and he shocked everyone by providing the Chiefs with more than a tough physical presence on the ground. He also showed the ability to make the leaping grab on more than one occasion with a pass-catching prowess that made everyone wonder where Williams had been in years past.

In case you need a reminder:

Last year, Williams crossed the 1K yards from scrimmage mark for the first time in his career, and he deserves a moment to step out of the shadows for a greater spotlight. Perhaps that can come from another team at this point. However, the Chiefs have never seen a full season yet from Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and Jerick McKinnon is also a free agent, which means the Chiefs are looking pretty thin right now at running back.

Bringing back Williams, if at all possible, would bolster the backfield with a well-rounded player who might have some more surprises still in store for the Chiefs. If not, then grabbing some more help from someone—including names like Rashaad Penny, Leonard Fournette, Marlon Mack, Devontae Booker—would at least strengthen the position before the Chiefs head into the draft.
