The reshaping of the roster is already well underway for the Kansas City Chiefs. Just a few days into a new league year, the Chiefs have brought back a number of familiar faces as well as invited a couple of new players on board to help shore up weakness, alter the team’s identity, and put together the best overall roster they can for the 2022 season.

In an interesting twist, the Chiefs were quick to replace one star they reportedly wanted to sign in Tyrann Mathieu with the signing of former Houston Texans safety Justin Reid. From there, the Chiefs were widely expected to release defensive end Frank Clark, but both sides found an agreeable way to keep the Shark on the edge for the Chiefs for the 2022 season.

Beyond those moves, the Chiefs also made sure the offense would find a new rhythm by replacing Byron Pringle, who left for the Chicago Bears, with JuJu Smith-Schuster, who the team tried to convince to sign just a year ago in free agency. The offense was further bolstered by the return of fullback Michael Burton and offensive lineman Andrew Wylie.

The Kansas City Chiefs have already brought in a couple of new faces, but here are the next five moves they should make this offseason.

With some re-signings in place and two new young contributors (both Smith-Schuster and Reid are only 25), the Chiefs are now looking at the start of the second week of free agency with a deeper roster but considerable needs to still address. While the talent pool is drained in free agency to varying degrees (depending on the position), the Chiefs can still make some valuable moves in this next stage of free agency.

Let’s take a look at the next five moves we think the Chiefs should make as another week of transactions loom on the calendar.
