KC Chiefs have backup tackle options in free agency

San Francisco 49ers’ Daniel Brunskill
The interior offensive line is amongst the Chiefs’ strongest position groups. San Francisco 49ers offensive guard Daniel Brunskill would only add to that strength.
A San Diego State alum, Brunskill did not have to move far for his NFL career. He has appeared in 47 games in three years, starting in 40 of those as well. Brunskill won the starting job over 2021 rookie second-round draft pick Aaron Banks and started all 17 games at right guard. Despite this, Brunskill is a popular pick to not re-sing with San Fransisco, according to 49ers media.
It is a headscratcher, as Brunskill has notably contained one of the league’s best players, Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald. One game is a fluke, but Brunskill has excelled against Donald for multiple games.
Brunskill should receive interest on that fact alone. When a player, who was not the preseason starter, bests an all-time star several times, that is incredible. Brunskill is the odd man out for the 49ers though, according to PFF. The 49ers need to clear more cap space before the league year starts, making Brunskill returning unlikely and unnecessary.
The Cheifs would be wise to take a flier on Brunskill if the price is right. The market is wide open for Brunskill though, as a budget-friendly interior starting option.
