According to a source for NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Kansas City Chiefs have agreed on terms with fullback Michael Burton to return for another season in 2022.

Burton was one of 25 free agents for the Chiefs this spring scheduled to hit the market and one of a few out of the backfield alone. Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon are also slated to be unrestricted free agents, and although the Chiefs made a reported effort to reach a deal with the former as well, both are likely to hit the open market once the new league year begins.

With the return of Burton, the Chiefs now have a bit of consistency at fullback after watching longtime fullback Anthony Sherman leave after eight seasons with the team last year.

The Kansas City Chiefs have reportedly reached terms on a deal to bring back Michael Burton for another season.

Burton joined the Chiefs on a one-year deal last spring after spending the previous season with the New Orleans Saints. This new deal will likely be a one-year deal as well, although terms are not yet released, and he played in all 16 games for K.C. last year. Last season, he had 8 carries for 26 yards for the Chiefs on the ground including his first rushing touchdown.

Burton has been a bit of a journeyman for teams who still employ a fullback after first joining the league as a fifth round pick of the Detroit Lions back in 2015. He’s also played for the Washington Football Team and Chicago Bears.
