6.189: Jeffrey Gunter, EDGE, Coastal Carolina

Do you guys remember selecting Joshua Kaindoh last year in the fourth round? Well, that’s pretty much what I’m doing here just in a better position. Kaindoh was drafted because of his frame and potential, that’s pretty much the exact same reason for selecting Jeffrey Gunter.

Gunter, throughout the past couple of seasons, has performed very well for Coastal Carolina. Last season he played in 12 games and had 35 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, and 8.5 TFL.

Gunter is a 6’4″ 260 lbs. defensive end and he uses his length to wrap guys up and create space from the tackle. However, the problem still remains that he is a raw prospect. He doesn’t use his speed or strength a whole lot, he doesn’t have great mechanics and has struggled in the past with finishing tackles behind the line of scrimmage. But that can all be taught.

Guntere has the length, the speed, and the athleticism to make things happen for himself. But he’s not ready to play day one.
