KC Chiefs 7-round mock draft brings serious defensive help
By Evan Mead
4.133: Erik Ezukanma, WR, Texas Tech
The Kansas City Chiefs need to get themselves a wide receiver two. It’s as simple as that, they have Byron Pringle and Mecole Hardman and they also just re-signed Josh Gordon, but are we really convinced that they can be a wide receiver two for this team? I’m not.
Now, don’t get me wrong, they are all talented receivers but they aren’t going to ever be the dominant counterpart to Tyreek Hill. They just haven’t shown that they can be, and until they prove it, we have to look elsewhere. That’s where this pick comes into play.
Now, it’s reasonable to think that I’m being over-dramatic to think a player I’m selecting in the fourth round could be a wide receiver two in the league, but it’s not because of talent he’s going here. It’s because he doesn’t get the top-tier attention given he goes to Texas Tech and doesn’t have great quarterback play.
Ezukanma fits the Chiefs perfectly, and that’s why this pick was made. He is a very, very athletic receiver who is 6’3″ and 220 lbs. Additionally, he fits the Chiefs due to his great speed downfield, but he also gives the Chiefs a bigger body receiver that could be a red-zone option. Which, I’ve been very big on over the past couple of seasons.
If the Chiefs were able to work on Ezukanma’s route running and develop him as a wide receiver talent, they could definitely be getting a wide receiver two. He could be everything we wanted Mecole Hardman to be and more.
