1.30: Daxton Hill, S, Michigan

Daxton Hill has been linked to the Chiefs in various mock drafts over the last couple of weeks. Hill wasn’t really mentioned as the Chiefs’ ‘top choice’ in most mock drafts prior to that, but given the fact that he has stood out recently as the Chiefs’ best option, I want this mock draft to be realistic and this seems realistic.

Moreover, the Chiefs are going to need to replace Tyraan Mathieu, if he does in fact leave, and given the Chiefs’ draft position, Hill is the best safety available to them at the bottom of the first round. He is a very good tackler in the open field, an aggressive defensive back when attacking, and has strong coverage skills that lead to a lot of breakups and disrupted routes.

Hill would be a terrific fit with the Chiefs if he were to end up playing at Arrowhead, and next to Juan Thornhill would give the Chiefs a solid young core in the secondary at safety.
