7.259: Cordell Volson, OT, North Dakota State

The Kansas City Chiefs revamped their offensive line last year, but after a year’s work, they went into the playoffs without a starting right tackle and ended up having to move Andrew Wylie there. That is not going to be ideal for this team moving forward which is where this pick comes into play.

Cordell Volson is one of the more underrated players in the draft, and I feel it has more to do with the lack of film out there. Volson, in his limited film, shows traits that could be very useful for the Chiefs.

Volson does have a lot of potential due to his aggressive approach as a tackle, and that is something that is good to have when you are asking someone to guard some of these elite pass rushers. He also has slow feet which could be a problem moving forward with this pick. Then again, we’re in the seventh round.

Volson would likely take a role as a depth piece on the offensive line as Andy Reid and the other offensive-minded coaches try to develop his footwork and mechanics. Until then, he’d likely just be another Prince Tega Wanogho.
