4.133 Akayleb Evans (CB); Missouri

After transferring from Tulsa to Missouri to face SEC competition in his redshirt senior year, Akayleb Evans forced two fumbles and snagged an interception in a Tigers uniform. It’s easy to see that he’s got confidence in his game, and there is good reason for it. He excels in press coverage, displays control of his speed in space, and makes the most of a 6’1″ 200 pound frame.

Evans is a sound tackler who seems to enjoy the physical side of the job, which would play well as a counterpart to L’Jarius Sneed and Rashad Fenton. Physicality at the cornerback position seems to be fleeting at times, and to lock down a third option who seeks contact and can hold his own in man coverage would set the Chiefs secondary apart.

Charvarius Ward is likely to test the free agency market, and if he walks, the CB need will increase substantially. Should that be the case, we may see this addressed earlier in the draft, but the fourth round feels like a safe slot for Evans. He is underrated in a variety of ways, but it is unlikely he would slide as far as our next pick at number 189.
