Arizona State running back Rachaad White said he spent some time with the Kansas City Chiefs during the 2022 NFL Combine.
Just like every other NFL franchise, the Kansas City Chiefs spent the 2022 NFL Combine meeting with a number of prospects hoping to make the leap from the college ranks to the pros while in Indianapolis for the week. Even with a couple of days left at the Combine, we’re slowly getting word of who some of those prospects are and the latest is Arizona State running back Rachaad White.
White has met with several NFL teams already and the Chiefs were one franchise mentioned along with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Buffalo Bills.
Last season, White enjoyed a breakout season in his final year with the Sun Devils under former Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards. He ran the ball 182 times in 11 games for a total of 1,000 yards even with 15 rushing touchdowns to his credit. That gave him an average of 5.5 yards per carry in the Pac-12. He also caught 43 passes for 456 yards and another touchdown through the air.
The Chiefs are likely to go shopping in the draft at running back although not until Day 3 given other positional needs, which makes White an interesting target here. There are a lot of things to like about him, especially for a West Coast offense, given his penchant for catching passes and serving as a real weapon in space. That said, his blocking is going to keep him from earning too much playing time and he goes down easily at times.
As for the Chiefs backfield, Clyde Edwards-Helaire is the holdover as the team deals with the pending free agency of Darrel Williams and Jerick McKinnon. Will they bring back one of those players? Will they sign someone else? Are they leaning on Derrick Gore for more in 2022? There’s room here for a new face, especially given the lack of depth here.
