The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off of an interesting 2021 campaign where they tied for the best record in the AFC and made it to the AFC Championship Game for a fourth consecutive year. The Chiefs have reached the conference championship every year since Patrick Mahomes took the reins as the starting quarterback of the franchise. Just from reading that, you would think that the 2021 season was another strong year for the Chiefs.

However, last season was not like any of the previous three years. The Chiefs did some things no one expected or thought was possible with this team, such as starting the season 3-4 or even being written off by some at that point. Before Week 7, Mahomes led the league in interceptions and the Chiefs led the NFL in giveaways. There were many drops on offense and plenty of missed tackles on defense. There were times when both the offense and defense looked great and other times where they looked bad.

Following the 3-4 start, the Chiefs put together an eight-game winning streak. The offense was still out of sync at the beginning of that streak. But a couple of games into the winning streak, both sides of the ball were clicking and the team was hard to stop. It looked like they had all their issues figured out until January when the defense struggled again and the team blew two big leads—both to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Despite reaching the AFC Championship again, there are a lot of issues the Chiefs must address and find ways to improve in those areas this offseason while preparing for the 2022 season.
