Chris Conley leaps up draft boards

Chris Conley knew he had to turn heads when he hit the Combine in 2015. As a wide receiver in a run-heavy Georgia offense, Conley knew his college stats weren’t going to do any heavy lifting for his draft stock. The game film wouldn’t help that much either given that there simply wasn’t that much out there with Conley as a focal point.

Conley came to Indy hoping that his results in various drills at the Combine could generate some excitement when his 657 receiving yards could not. While Conley had solid numbers in perspective with the offense he played inside., he needed some juice. Fortunately, he was well-prepared.

As a player who stood 6’3, Conley already had decent length, but he ran a 40-yard dash in 4.35 seconds which gave him elite speed. From there, he set Combine records for both the vertical leap and the broad jump. In the former, he reached 45 inches and in the latter, Conley reached 11 feet, 7 inches. Just like that, Conley became the talk of the Combine.

These days, Conley is playing for the Houston Texans after also playing a few years with the Jacksonville Jaguars and, of course, following up his rookie deal with the Chiefs.
