Dontari dominates the Underwear Olympics

While some players are choosing to not perform at the NFL Combine these days in hopes of getting better results during their pro day in a more familiar environment, others utilize the annual pre-draft exhibition to catapult up draft boards with outstanding performances.

One of the single best combine performances in NFL history came back in 2012 when the Kansas City Chiefs were interested in bolstering their defensive line at No. 11 overall. It was this year that Dontari Poe decided to put up results that made him a physical wonder with such a tremendous blend of size, strength, agility, and speed.

It was one thing to see Poe put up an NFL Combine record of 44 bench press reps (remember Tyler had 42). But imagine seeing a man who stands over 6’3″ and weighs in at 346 pounds able to run the 40-yard dash in 4.98 seconds. Yes, that’s a sub 5 40-yard dash time from a 350 lb. player. That’s unheard of.

Just like that, Poe became the talk of the draft and the Chiefs took him before the likes of Fletcher Cox and Melvin Ingram at No. 11.
