Tyreek Hill and the Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly engaged in “positive talks” on a new contract extension to keep him for years to come, per 610 Sports. It follows up on previous rumors that had the Chiefs focused on an extension for Hill as an early piece of important business in the 2022 offseason.

The Chiefs have a lot of discussions scheduled for this offseason about a number of contract extensions for a lot of the team’s stars, which means Brett Veach as general manager is going to be very busy. However, getting Hill’s contract done sooner than later is vital for the team if they want to both create important cap space this offseason as well as get ahead of however high the market is bound to go with another round of free agency.

Hill has been the Chiefs’ top wide receiver for several seasons now and is still very much in his prime. As one of the most dynamic weapons in the National Football League, Hill is the Chiefs’ most versatile weapon against opposing defenses with a well-rounded game capable of stacking up multiple catches in a single game or blowing the top off the defense with his deep speed in a single play.

Hill set the record for most receiving yards in a single season back in 2018 with 1,479 yards and he’s made it to six consecutive Pro Bowls to start his career. Only one receiver, A.J. Green of the Cincinnati Bengals, has had more Pro Bowls to open his career in NFL history.

In 2022, Hill is scheduled to hit free agency following the upcoming season as he wraps a current three-year deal worth up to $54 million that he signed back in September of 2019.
