Charvarius Ward, corner

This is the most obvious posting of all here, but it looks like Ward could potentially price himself out of a return to Kansas City based upon his potential, his market, and the Chiefs’ penchant for playing it cheaper at the position.

If Ward gets away, he’s going to have a lot to offer his next team simply because he will be in his mid-twenties with years of his prime ahead of him and yet a full history of being a consistent force as a boundary corner for the Chiefs.

Brett Veach deserves loads of credit for flipping an injured Parker Ehinger to the Dallas Cowboys for a few years of Ward in the secondary, but no one would be surprised to see the Chiefs pay market price for a few more years of him as well. It might alter the present approach of searching for cheaper help at cornerback, but Ward is a sticky-as-hell pass defender who excels in exactly what the Chiefs need on defense.

Losing him would be a big hit to the Chiefs and a potential gain to fellow AFC contenders like the Bengals or Patriots.
