For those who are wanting to get in their wagers a bit early for the 2022 NFL season, you can now cast your best guesses (attached to some money) for the Most Valuable Player award for next season. In the early going, Las Vegas oddsmakers are favoring Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen over everyone else—including Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
What’s interesting about the latest odds out from our friends at WynnBET is that the MVP of the last two NFL seasons, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, isn’t even in the top two on the list given that Allen and Mahomes are there competing at the top. Rodgers is a fairly close third in the vote and the trio are clear favorites, but Rodgers’ age is likely being held against him.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is second favorite to win MVP in 2022.
As for Allen, he had a strong year last year and perhaps the Bills look ready to make the leap over the Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals for the title as best team in the AFC. Speaking of Cincy, quarterback Joe Burrow, who won the league’s Comeback Player of the Year in 2021, is fifth on the list of favored candidates for MVP.
What’s most notable about the list, which also includes Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert at No. 4 overall, is that the AFC is particularly loaded at quarterback. Allen, Burrow, Mahomes, and Herbert are competing for the conference every year for the foreseeable future and that’s not including exciting young players like Lamar Jackson or younger players who could make the leap like Zach Wilson or Trevor Lawrence.
As for non-quarterbacks, only Tennessee running back Derrick Henry was able to make the top 10 list.
As for the actual odds, Mahomes comes in at +700, which ranks him second behind Allen at +600. Rodgers comes in third at +800.
