We are exactly one month away from the start of the 2022 NFL league year, and, in turn, it is time to ramp up analysis and speculation on what will happen to the Kansas City Chiefs roster through free agency. This year’s free agency class in Kansas City carries with it the weight of nostalgia, as it is highlighted by 16 members of the Super Bowl 54 championship roster. The business of the NFL has always been cutthroat to those within, but in a moment like this, fans can feel its harsh nature, first-hand, as well.

With the Chiefs marking their 2020 campaign slogan as, “run it back,” we all got to relish in the unadulterated pleasure of getting the gang back together. At a certain point, you may have even thought we would never fall from the high we were all on. That roster, when at its best, felt so complete and regularly made the game look seamless and fun. Now it’s 2022, and it’s time to face the music.

At the top of the Chiefs’ priority list lies Tyrann Mathieu, the hired gun-turned heart-and-soul of the locker room. There is plenty of debate to be had on either side of the argument around the team-voted MVP, and at the end of the day, no opinion is unfounded. On one hand, he is the leader of the team and the intangible value and impact that brings with it cannot be ignored. On the other, he absolutely lived up to and fulfilled his first contract, but is aging and expensive to keep around. There is an entire article to be written about Mathieu and how pivotal his offseason will be, but this will be something else.

Here are five Chiefs that have absolutely, unequivocally, no-doubt played their last game in Kansas City.
