From the looks of it, the Kansas City Chiefs have decided to sign another tight end to their roster, and it’s a bit of a familiar face (or should we say “familial” face) in the form of Josh Pederson. Pederson’s former coach took to Twitter to announce the news a bit earlier than the team’s official announcement.

Pederson is the son of former Chiefs assistant coach Doug Pederson, who went on to coach the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl victory and is now the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The younger Pederson is a tight end prospect who has been trying to find a home in the National Football League after wrapping up his collegiate career at Louisiana-Monroe in 2021.

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed tight end Josh Pederson, the son of former assistant coach Doug Pederson, to a futures contract, per a report.

Pederson went undrafted last year but caught on with the San Francisco 49ers, but was released early in training camp as roster cuts came into view. From there, the New Orleans Saints checked him out for a couple of weeks during the preseason but he was released before final cuts were due at the end of August.

The Chiefs showed previous interest in Pederson during a workout at Arrowhead featuring several players who have gone on to earn futures contracts with the team, including wide receiver Justin Watson, cornerback Brandin Dandridge, and defensive end Jonathan Woodard.

Pederson had 32 catches for 367 yards for UL-M in 2021.
