This is going to be a tough offseason for the Kansas City Chiefs.

As general manager Brett Veach and his staff at Arrowhead figure out their game plan for the coming months, the Chiefs face several tough calls at multiple areas of the roster. From coaching changes that are currently already being addressed to how to handle some key positions of need, the Chiefs have a lot to figure out. And for a team with 25 pending free agents, there’s also not a lot of money to go around—at least at present.

For Veach, there are challenges but he’s also proven adept at finding solutions. For all of their issues, the Chiefs are a desirable destination for many players. Clearing up cap space can be done with some savvy moves, and Veach has shown a penchant for unearthing unexpected bargains. Also after finding multiple starters in last year’s draft, there’s hope that Veach will enjoy having four picks in the first three rounds this time around.

The good news is that some calls are easier than others. While it doesn’t mean everything will work out, we’ve got a few steps that are fairly obvious for Veach to make on the defensive side that should be easy calls. And it all starts up front with a player who the Chiefs chased all last year.
