Address the Cornerback Position Through the Draft

Another weakness on the defensive side for the Chiefs is the secondary. Kansas City’s ranked 27th in the NFL in pass defense, allowing 251.4 passing yards per game this season. Charvarius Ward is also a free agent, but he should not be the top cornerback option on a roster. L’Jarius Sneed was a fourth-round pick who has turned into a steal and a solid cornerback for the Chiefs. However, the Chiefs may want to use more draft capital on the secondary.

At pick 30, the Chiefs will miss out on top cornerback talent in the 2022 NFL Draft, but there could still be some options at the end of the first round. Kaiir Elam, Trent McDuffie, and Roger McCreary are certainly cornerbacks the Chiefs could look into at the end of the first round.

Pairing Sneed with a rookie cornerback and grabbing a more affordable cornerback in free agency could present Kansas City an improved secondary in 2022 and going forward. Also, with Tyrann Mathieu’s future with the Chiefs in the air there is even more reason why the Chiefs need to prioritize secondary players to help this defense.
