Bolster the Defensive Line

To win in the NFL you must have a quarterback and win the line-of-scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Kansas City already has the quarterback position and offensive line locked down, but the defensive line needs some work.

With the likely departure of Frank Clark and pass rushers like Melvin Ingram and Jarran Reed set to become free agents, the Chiefs need to add some pieces on the defensive line this offseason. After being sacked nine times against the Titans in the divisional round, Joe Burrow escaped Arrowhead with only one sack surrendered. Kansas City needs to build a pass rush that can consistently get to the quarterback.

In his closing press conference for the 2021 season, Brett Veach talked about his plans for this offseason and how important it is to build a formidable defense. “I don’t think it’s far-fetched to say we’ll prioritize the lines like we always do,” Veach told reporters. “Knowing that we have a good offensive line in place, the defensive line probably makes the most sense.”

The Chiefs had 31 sacks this season, ranking 29th in the NFL. Chris Jones provides the consistency the Chiefs are looking for, but outside of him, the pass rush has been lackluster.
