Earning the respect of one’s peers is just about as good as it gets in professional sports, which is why Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu sounds excited to be named a team captain at this year’s Pro Bowl.
Mathieu is one of several members of the Chiefs who will be playing in the National Football League’s annual all-star exhibition, and for Mathieu, this will be his third go-around to the Pro Bowl in his 9-year career.
Mathieu took to Twitter to break the news with a bit of joy in the mix:
The best in the league voted me Pro bowl captain!!!

The Chiefs had two players on the defensive side of the ball named to the team with both Mathieu and defensive tackle Chris Jones voted into the game. However, Jones is out with an injury and he will be replaced by Tennessee Titans defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons.
Tyrann Mathieu sounded excited to be named as a captain for the AFC in the 2022 Pro Bowl.
On the offensive side, the Chiefs are sending quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr.
Mathieu will play in the Pro Bowl as a representative of the Chiefs, but his status with the team is perhaps the single biggest question mark for Kansas City going forward into the 2022 offseason. Mathieu’s contract is up after three years, but both sides have maintained for a full calendar year now that they want to get something done for the long-term. That said, the Chiefs have a lot of financial considerations with other big-money players, and they also have to lock up Brown at left tackle.
Mathieu had 3 interceptions and 10 passes deflected for the Chiefs last season.
