On Tuesday, the NFL officially waved goodbye to the player who is likely to be remembered as the all-time greatest to ever play the game of professional football. Quarterback Tom Brady announced his retirement on Tuesday after 22 years in the game, a player who made himself a household name several Super Bowls ago and went on to international fame.

Brady officially decided to hang it up when his attempt to repeat as Super Bowl champions with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was stalled.

Given his tremendous body of work, Brady’s retirement is something that will be felt throughout the entire league and the Kansas City Chiefs aren’t an outlier here. Several players have already taken to social media to pay their respects to Brady’s incredible career.

Quarterback Tom Brady officially announced his retirement on Tuesday, and his record against the Kansas City Chiefs was a mixed bag in recent years.

But what will the Chiefs lose with Brady’s retirement as an opponent? From his years with the New England Patriots to the recent Super Bowl LV matchup, Brady was not only a familiar foe but a feared one most years. Yet his total body of work was a bit of a mixed bag against Kansas City.

Early in his career against the Chiefs, Tom Brady absolutely owned Kansas City as you might expect. He went 4-1 as a starter for New England against the Chiefs until the arrival of Andy Reid. From there, the script flipped on the regular season as the Chiefs went 1-4 against Brady, and most of Chiefs Kingdom today can likely recall several, if not all, of those victories pretty easily.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, Brady was not such a pushover for Andy Reid’s teams in the postseason. While Reid always got the best of Brady during the regular season, Brady would go 3-0 against the Chiefs in the postseason in his career—with each game coming against Reid (note that the Chiefs rarely were able to make the playoffs before Reid arrived).

In the postseason, Brady’s 3-0 record against the Chiefs was bolstered by 6 touchdowns against 2 interceptions with only a single sack by the Chiefs defense. Brady stalled the Chiefs’ postseason runs in 2015, 2018, and 2020.

Overall, Brady went 8-5 in his career against the Chiefs in 13 total games as a starter with 20 touchdown passes against 12 interceptions.
